This doesn’t have too much to do with fashion, but I thought I’d share with you my other passion and weekend highlight: dance.
On Saturday, I attended a dance competition at the Colonial Theater in Boston hosted by my school’s very own main hip hop dance crew, FUSION. Crew’s from all up and down the East Coast came to compete as well as special appearances by SoReal Cru (Season 2), Rhythm City (Top 4 of Season 4), and FR3SH 7 (Season 4) as seen on America’s Best Dance Crew. Pretty exciting, yes?
Presentation, creativity with theme, and costume scheme played a huge part in the judges’ decisions.
A few pics courtesy of Edward Fan, Kristin Soloman, and Kim Phan:

Sadly, Fusion did not compete, but props to the winners, including MIT’s Ridonkulous! I was able to record performances by Fusion and SoReal Cru via my IPhone. I got a little shout out from another competing dance group, Project D. =)

Style bloggers, be proud and stick to your craft. I saw this article in the November issue of Teen Vogue a while back and thought I’d share the love. My fave? Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast, naturally. If you don’t know her already, definitely check her out on my blog roll (click the link to Fashion Toast). She has the effortless, SoCal, street chic down to a T, her very own designs for RVCA, and not to mention a hot shot photographer as a boyfriend. I’ve got to get me one of those.

Even before the Spring 2010 runways strutted their lingerie…*ehhehhmm*…I mean clothing…bustiers, lace and barely there get-ups have been creeping out of retail stores everywhere this fall/winter.
Ironic, considering the colder climate of the season but nonetheless refreshing and edgy; much like the rest of this fall/winter’s studded, black-wearing, MJ-inspired fashion-crazed mania that’s been rocking the streets these days. Enough of my banter. Some looks, I’ve compiled just for you fancy.that goers:

It’s innerwear as outerwear, *gasp* our intimates exposed, ladies (no gents, in this case)! But everything in moderation. You can still leave some to the imagination no matter what the clothing item or, well…lack thereof. Don’t go rummaging through your lingerie closet to layer with just yet. It’s the lingerie-inspired trend, NOT lingerie.
Stay classy, ladies. Stay classy.
Ta Ta, for now.

..blaack and gold.
Coincidentally, I was listening to good ol’ Sam Sparro’s “Black and Gold” song (think “Fame” movie soundtrack) when my daily Lookbook.Nu update was emailed to me and I came across this lovely stylista and her hot get-up:

Couldn’t help but notice the similarity to the jackets when I came across a recent Rachel Bilson magazine shoot:
..I must say I have been loving the black with gold accents combo this past season.

New York-based designer, Caron Callahan, introduces her 2010 spring collection, Standard Finery. Inspired by the Cape Cod scenery in our dear New England, Callahan combines understated femininity with a hint of masculinity to all her pieces, using neutral colors and detailed stitching on soft fabrics.
For women out there who appreciate the .finer. things but want no fuss, Standard Finery is perfect. Some good pieces to invest in.

who: .Rihanna.

where: on the set of her “Run This Town” video
..Rihanna you can run my town any day.
In true Michael Jackson-inspired form, Rihanna dresses to thrill and umm..kill in the new “Run This Town” video alongside Jay-Z and *cough cough* ..umm..the infamous Kanye West.
And in true fashion icon form, Rihanna shows off designer Jeremy Scott’s genius, whose unique creations have also been shown off by the likes of Britney Spears (think airline stewardess in her “Toxic” video), Katy Perry, Lady GaGa, and more. Karl Lagerfeld, himself, quoted in the French newspaper, Le Monde, that Scott was the only designer who could take over for him after leaves Chanel.
The best news? Scott isn’t an import. Nope, ladies and gents. Hats off to the Kansas City-born Scott who never ceases to amaze in the fashion industry.

The King of Pop may be ten feet deep beneath mounds of earth, but he’s far from being dead…
…and by dead I mean iconically speaking.
It’s universal knowledge that the late MJ was a man whose celebrity succeeded in staying in the public eye, whether he desired it or not; and even after his death, his star refuses to disappear completely. Hey, I’m not complaining. There never has been or will be anyone quite like him to shake up the entertainment industry with his sick beats, his signature moon walk, his controversial appearance and newly discovered fascination with Adolf Hitler (yes, I’m quite shaken up myself), and of course his unique style.

I fell in love with this coming month’s issue of Harper’s Bazaar when Agynesse Deyn channeled her inner P.Y.T. while showing off the season’s sequined blazers, short pants, military jackets, and black and white fedoras, all no doubt signature looks of the King of Pop himself.
Yes, all these pieces are incorporated in this season’s trend but Mr. Jackson has long inspired the fashion runways and street chic since..well..his existence.

Take.Me.To.LA
August 27, 2009
This post has been long overdue seeing as it’s no longer June Gloom, and what should have been a recent LA adventure is now a three month old memory.
Enough of this nostalgia. Summer’s not over just yet.
If you’re an LA native or if you’ve ever taken a liking to the shopping areas of LA, you’re probably already familiar with Melrose Avenue and Robertson Blvd. Yes, look no further.
Spotted: tall, skinny Tzengers channeling the day’s perpetual June gloom.

A couple friends and I spent the day exploring the various vintage shops and boutiques on Melrose and Robertson, respectively. First stop was Melrose, where real urban dressing is inspired in LA. Shops range from vintage stores like Wasteland and American Vintage to Ben Sherman and Fred Segal.

Welcome to B.by.Aperire, a boutique of Japanese-influenced shoes and handbags that, up until recently, was only sold in London and Japan. Now, at the forefront of LA street chic shopping, B.by.Aperire has opened its doors to Melrose Ave. Up-and-coming shoe designer, Hiromi Tatsuta, provides a refreshingly upbeat and funky take with her shoe line, inspired by Japanese anime art. Take a look see!
